#madrid #urbanmobility #sustainability #madridspain #madridcapital Another visit to the A-5 undergrounding works and the closure of the old Batán underpass is starting to become visible, something work on which began a month ago. However, today's visit revealed more important developments that precede the future slab connecting all the tunnels. They are already working on the walls that will not only support this slab but also close off the two spans and separate them in the central area. The best part is that it will be clearly visible from the street, something that might be more difficult in the case of the other two underpasses. As I said, they are currently working on the walls, but it seems they are moving quickly, and I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing the slab above before the end of this month. I think it will be one of the few major highlights of the project before the tunnels open. The other two underpasses are in a much worse state of repair. In Los Yébenes, the closure is also beginning, though it's still in a very early stage. There's already a drilling rig in the area, and I actually saw them installing reinforcement while preparing a Tremie pipe. It's the first time I've ever seen a pipe like this being assembled—life's funny that way. I've always seen them assembled and in use, but never disassembled and in the middle of the assembly phase. We'll see something there, but from a distance; the closure will be visible with some nuances. The real problem will be seeing the closure of the underpass on the Boadilla Road. It will be visible from very far away, from the footbridge of the green cycling ring, or perhaps—and I say perhaps—from a small private park on the corner of Paseo de Extremadura and the Boadilla Road. I'll see if I can get a chance to film from there, because I don't see any other options. The last hotspot has to do with connecting the new tunnels with the existing ones under Avenida de Portugal. It seems they've finished the piles and are now working on the preliminary reinforcement that will allow them to raise the north wall. Once that wall is built, they can begin working on closing off that space to connect the new tunnels with the old ones. This will link Madrid Río with the gardens on Avenida de Portugal and with the new park above the A-5 tunnels. Progress is progressing very well; it's already May, and November is just around the corner. We have six months to go before we can see the tunnels from the inside. Happy Monday!
