I put "old" in quotes because considering the tunnels under Avenida de Portugal "old" seems odd, even though they are indeed the oldest. They are also making progress on the two-lane roadway above ground, and a new report has been published regarding the opening of both tunnels. Let's start with this last point, because it's a weekend report that refines the opening date. There isn't an exact date yet, or at least we don't know it yet, but they're talking about the end of December. It's safe to assume that as the works progress further, the construction companies will have a clearer idea of ​​when we can actually drive through both tunnels. November seems to have been somewhat optimistic, and December will likely be more realistic. Let's hope it's not right in the middle of the Christmas season. Regarding the surface works, the aforementioned roadway is being extended from an area near the Batán underpass to the Yébenes underpass. Both curbs are almost completely finished; you can even see the recessed areas where the pedestrian crossings will be located. The central slab is also well advanced; you can see the areas where the manhole covers and pipes, which will likely be streetlights, will be installed. I don't know when they'll pave all of that, but at the rate they're going, I don't think it will take long. And the underpasses? They're not easy to film, especially the one on the Boadilla Road. From the car, I could see part of the reinforcement for the future slab, which they were pouring concrete for today. In other words, they're already roofing both tunnels. And that's very positive. The Yébenes underpass is progressing more slowly because, for now, they've only built the north wall, leaving the central and south walls to be completed. No further progress is visible from either the car or the street. The Batán underpass remains much the same as it was two weeks ago, even though I thought we'd see part of the concrete roof today. Or the slab, to put it simply. The three walls are now finished, so they'll be able to close the underpass at any moment. I imagine that on the 29th, which is the next visit, we'll see that section more changed, less open. Finally, the area near the Paseo de Extremadura is also progressing. The branch is already being excavated, at least in the outermost section, the one closest to Casa de Campo. Today there was an excavator there filling trucks with earth, which is very good news. They're also making progress on connecting the tunnels, and you can see how the reinforcement for the new north wall has grown. They've even started pouring what I understand to be the foundation for that wall. There's still quite a bit to do, but I'm sure the wall will be finished next month, and when that happens, we'll see the pillars rise to build the intermediate wall, and later they'll begin closing that section. Despite the heat, this summer is going to be very busy at this spectacular construction site. We're just 6 months away from the grand opening. Happy Monday!
