In this video, I'll explain them. VEHICLE LIMITS FOR THE FIRST YEAR One of the most important restrictions concerns the vehicles that can be driven with a category B license for the FIRST year after obtaining it, not for the entire three years in which you are considered a new driver. The restriction concerns the power-to-weight ratio, which must not exceed 55 kW per ton. This restriction applies to motor vehicles in general, but there is an additional restriction for passenger cars, which concerns the maximum engine power, which must not exceed 70 kW. Failure to comply with these restrictions is punishable by a fine ranging from a minimum of €161 to a maximum of €647, but most importantly by the withdrawal and suspension of the driving license from 2 to 8 months. SPEED LIMITS The second restriction concerns speed limits, which are lower than normal road speeds. However, these limits are not applied on all roads, only on those with the highest limits: main extra-urban roads, where the maximum limit is 110 km/h but is lowered to 90 km/h for new drivers, and motorways, where the maximum limit is 130 km/h but is lowered to 100 km/h for new drivers. On other roads, i.e., urban and secondary extra-urban roads, the speed limits for new drivers remain unchanged, remaining at 50 and 90 km/h, respectively. Failure to comply with the specific limits for new drivers is punishable by an administrative fine ranging from €161 to €647, but above all by the withdrawal and suspension of the license from 2 to 8 months. However, these penalties are in addition to those normally imposed for speed violations, which vary depending on the severity of the offense: the higher the speed, the higher the fine. ALCOHOL CONTENT It's well known that driving under the influence of alcohol has no positive aspects, not even one. However, the law allows those who have held a license for MORE than three years to have a blood alcohol content of up to 0.5 g per liter. But... for new drivers, there's zero tolerance. A new driver who has consumed even a small amount of any alcoholic beverage will not be allowed to drive. This will result in severe penalties, as regulated by Article 186 of the Highway Code. That is, driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol level (BAC) greater than zero but not exceeding 0.5 is punishable by a fine of up to €624 and the deduction of 5 points. For a BAC greater than 0.5, the new driver will be subject to the corresponding penalties normally applicable, increased by one-third to one-half, with the deduction of points also being doubled, thus becoming 20, not 10, as normally provided. And when a driver's license is issued, the points are precisely 20, so the real risk is that of ending up with zero points on the license. But I assure you that having zero points removed is the last thing on the minds of those caught driving under the influence. Finally, remember these last two things: driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol content (BAC) exceeding 0.8 is also a crime, and anyone who commits it is liable to arrest. And if a new driver is found to have a BAC above 1.5, their license will be revoked, or torn to pieces and thrown away. PENALTIES The law also provides for harsher penalties for new drivers. If violations punishable by license suspension are committed, the suspension period is increased by a third the first time, and doubled the second time. Points deducted are also doubled for ALL violations that require point deductions. Fortunately, new drivers are granted a bonus point each year, for the first three years of their license, provided no violations punishable by point deductions are committed. If you're a new driver, or are about to become one, I recommend paying close attention to the vehicle you're driving, speed limits, and absolutely no alcohol. I advise against doing this even after you've been a new driver for three years. And remember, common sense and caution. This concludes the video on new drivers. #NEWDRIVERS #SPEEDLIMITS #DRIVINGEXAM
