There are many changes made and some of these concern new drivers. Let's see what has changed. For those who have already obtained their license, or will do so by December 13, 2024, nothing will change, everything will remain as it is now. For those who obtain it from December 14 onwards, something will change. Let's see what. When you obtain your license, you become a new driver and will be one for three years. In those three years, the new driver will have to respect particular limitations, which are these: on all extra-urban roads, the maximum speed limit is ninety kilometers per hour, which becomes one hundred on motorways. The other limitation concerns alcoholic beverages: in the first three years after obtaining the license, the permitted blood alcohol level is ZERO. If you drink, you don't drive, and if you drive, you don't drink. In the event that violations are committed for which points are deducted, the points deducted from the new driver are doubled, regardless of the violation. In exchange, in addition to the two points that are added to everyone every two years if no violations are committed, the new driver is entitled to an extra point per year, for the first three years, provided of course that he has not committed violations with deduction of points. In the event that rules of the highway code punishable by suspension of the license are violated, the suspension period is increased by a third the first time and doubled the second time. But now let's get to what has changed, that is, the vehicles that can be driven from the moment in which the license is obtained. Those who obtain the license by December thirteenth two thousand and twenty-four, will have to respect the limitations on vehicles, which we can now define as old, which are valid for only one year from the day on which the driving test was passed. The limitations allow you to drive motor vehicles with a power/weight ratio not exceeding fifty-five kW per ton. In the case of category M1 vehicles, and therefore normal cars, in addition to the limitation on the power/weight ratio, there is also another one, which concerns the maximum power that must not exceed seventy kW. With the most recent changes to the Highway Code, everything has changed. The limitations that come into force for those who obtain their license from December 14th onwards are no longer valid for one year, but for three, like all the other limitations for new drivers. The power/weight ratio goes from the current fifty-five to a whopping seventy-five kW per ton. In the case of cars, even electric or plug-in hybrids, the maximum power must not exceed one hundred and five kW, just under one hundred and forty-three horsepower, which is a lot. Of course, the limitation is now for three years, not one, but with these new limits, new drivers will be able to drive many more models of cars, a lot more powerful and therefore also a lot faster. If I were a new driver I would be happy, if I were his parent I would be a little less so. These limitations do not apply, as per the old law, in the case in which, sitting next to the new driver, there is a person acting as an instructor, no older than sixty-five, with a B license obtained at least ten years ago, or with a higher category license.
