FACEBOOK: / guidareoggi BRAKE AND CLUTCH: HOW TO USE THEM BEFORE A TURN OR A BEND You often ask me whether it is better to start braking first or lower the clutch, and whether the clutch should be held up or down when cornering or turning. I'll explain everything in this video. Imagine you're in second gear, you're moving forward without accelerating and therefore at a speed of about 15 kilometers per hour, but you need to slow down further. So what do you do? Press the brake pedal lightly and the speed will start to decrease. But the car, without accelerating, doesn't want to go less than 15 kilometers per hour and will let you know, starting to jerk. Because we're going too slow, the wheels are turning too slowly, and they're slowing down the engine gears too much. It's as if the wheels were choking the engine. And if we slow down further until the wheels almost stop, and therefore the vehicle, the engine will also stop, turning off. And So, if I have to proceed at a really low speed without jerking or even turning off the engine, what should I do? Very simple, I disconnect the wheels from the engine, How? By lowering the clutch pedal. So I will be able to go very slowly, stop even if necessary, but the engine, being disconnected from the wheels, will continue to run calmly. I hope that everything is clear up to now. Imagine running at a speed of forty/forty-five kilometers per hour, in third gear, but soon you will have to turn right. Let's leave aside the mirrors and the indicators, which do not interest us in this video, and focus on the brake and clutch. The first thing to do will be to start slowing down, slowly, only with the brake, to reach the turn at an adequate speed. So the vehicle is now slowing down. Once you reach thirty-five/thirty kilometers then, the third gear will no longer be good; we will have to change to a smaller one, because we are going slower, and the gear depends mainly on the speed. So, always keeping our foot light on the brake pedal to continue to slow down even while we change gear, we will lower the clutch pedal to engage second gear; once the gear is engaged we will slowly lift the clutch again, thus also using the braking action of the engine. We are obviously still slowing down with the brake. A turn of this type can be taken at a speed of about 20 kilometers per hour, a perfect speed to keep in second gear. Once this speed is reached, we will release the brake pedal and begin to steer. You see that in this case, during the turn it will not be necessary to brake or lower the clutch. Now let's look at the second example to understand what to do in the case of a very tight turn, to be done Very very slowly. What we will do when approaching the turn will be identical to before; we will begin to slow down by pressing only the brake pedal, once we reach a speed of thirty-five/thirty kilometers per hour, always keeping our foot light on the brake, we will lower the clutch, shift down to second and raise the clutch again. Here we will continue to slow down quite a bit, because the turn is very tight. We will go at twenty kilometers per hour... so kilometers per hour... CALM DOWN!!! Fifteen kilometers per hour we said that is the minimum speed to go in second with the clutch up... if we continue to slow down, the car will start to jerk... And then in this case, to prevent the car from jerking or even stalling, we will have to lower the clutch, and in this way we will be able to further reduce the speed and run even at less than fifteen kilometers per hour without any problems with the engine. Let's suppose we have reached a speed of 10 kilometers per hour that will allow us to take the turn in full control... we will keep the clutch down for the entire turn, to lift it up again when, with the turn practically completed, we can pick up speed again. It is the speed at which we will take a turn or a curve that makes us understand whether to do it with the clutch up or down. If we slow down a lot with the clutch up, reaching a very low speed, the engine revs will drop excessively and will make it jerk. Before that happens, let's lower the clutch. But be careful, If it is not necessary, try to go around curves and turns with the clutch on. #clutch #brake #drivingtest
