Day 17: 🇦🇹 The Road to Graz & Travel Hacks 🚗💨

Today, I’m saying goodbye to Bad Goisern and heading to Graz on an epic 2.5-hour road trip! This drive took me through some of Austria's most incredible mountain scenery and massive highway engineering—including a staggering 8.6 km long tunnel! This trip was also a massive personal milestone: it was my very first time ever driving a left-hand drive car on the right-hand side of the road. After putting over 1,500 km on the clock exploring Faistenau, Bad Goisern, and all the gorgeous surrounding lakes, I successfully returned the car to Europcar without a single scratch, nick, or bump! Every single penny spent on that rental was worth it. 🙌 Once in Graz, I checked into my tech-savvy keypad accommodation, fueled up with a good cup of coffee, and set out to master the public transport system. I picked up a weekly Graz Mobile ticket for just €20.80 (around 400 Rand) and hopped a tram straight to the historic Hauptplatz. From marveling at the architecture and the famous statue of Archduke Johann to discovering the dark history of the square's 1800s public persecutions, Graz immediately stole my heart. To top it all off, I used my transit pass to catch a free ride up the Schlossberg funicular to see the iconic Clock Tower, enjoy breathtaking aerial views of the city, and even catch a sneak peek of the band White Lies soundchecking for their concert tonight! 🎶🏰 After spending some time up there, I walked around and took in the sights and the scenery, crossing over the river, looking at unique buildings, and admiring the extremely beautiful architecture. For supper, I grabbed myself a delicious salmon poke bowl and a Coke before jumping back on a tram to head home. The transit system here is a dream—it was so incredibly easy to use, and the tram stop drops off a mere 300 meters away from where I am staying, which is absolutely fantastic! I spent the rest of my evening getting caught up on a load of washing and having a bit of a pamper night. I had a good laugh experimenting with some new skincare products and beauty gimmicks I bought, including under-eye patches and a hydrating foot mask treatment.
