Is Smaller Better? | Ugly Carport Makeover (Part 2)

This video is part of a series in which we're converting our ugly old carport into something more like an attractive garage. We then plan to knock through the wall to join it with the existing shed, and eventually that should create a whole new workshop space for us. A few short weeks ago a storm took the roof off our carport. Rather than repair it like-for-like, we've decided to make renovating the carport our first major project in our new home. This week we decided to reduce the size of it to half by moving the uprights of the original steel frame. By doing this, we’ll have a smaller and more manageable covered space, but we’ll also improve access for parking, which will allow us to reclaim a significant portion of the giant concrete driveway to turn into garden instead. OUR STORY: After 20 years of moving around, in July 2024 we finally moved into what we hope will be our forever home: A 0.2 acre plot of land with a cottage in rural South-West Scotland. It's a place we never imagined we'd be able to call our own. The house and grounds are tired and in need of rejuvenation, but this is great for us because we love gardening and DIY projects that involve restoring old houses.
