I Didn’t Check the Map… – Camino de Santiago (Ep. 7)

This week on the Camino, I didn’t check the map. I left Villafranca a little later than usual — figured my body needed the sleep — and spent the morning walking through one of the prettiest towns yet. Cows, quiet roads, and a relaxed pace carried me into Vega de Valcarce, where I lucked into a great meal and an even better spot by the river to sit, think, and just enjoy being out here. That didn’t last long. The next day, I thought I had an easy walk ahead. Took my time, got coffee and eggs in Las Herrerías… and then found out the big climb to O Cebreiro wasn’t tomorrow. It was today. What followed was a long, wet, uphill grind through La Faba and into the mountains — fog, rain, and some of the most incredible views I’ve seen so far. By the time I reached O Cebreiro, it felt like stepping into another world. Day 26 turned into one of my favorite days yet. I started tracking every euro I spent just to see what a full day on the Camino actually costs — but the real story was everything happening along the way. Pilgrims from all over the world, incredible mountain views, and a stray dog I started calling “Snowball” who decided to walk with me. At one point, I crashed the drone trying to get a shot… and had to climb a hillside to get it back. Snowball disappeared somewhere along the trail… but then somehow showed up again later. Still not sure how that happened. By the time I reached Triacastela, I had one of the best rooms yet — and one of the best meals to go with it. Then came the walk into Sarria. I took the longer, more scenic route — about four extra miles — and it turned into one of the most peaceful stretches of the entire journey. Quiet villages, birds, old stone paths… and time to think about the fact that I’ve now walked over 400 miles. That’s hard to wrap your head around. Sarria brought a bit of a twist — the only place I could book was a three-bedroom apartment. So for the first time in nearly a month, I went grocery shopping, made dinner, and just had a normal night. And honestly… it felt pretty great. — 🎒 Most Asked About Gear 👇 🥾 Boots → https://amzn.to/4uq3RrG 🧦 Socks → https://amzn.to/4unjReE 🧦 Darn Tough Socks → https://amzn.to/4dwPMC2 🎒 Backpack → https://amzn.to/3PloNkP 👜 Rucksack / Fanny Pack → https://www.rei.com/product/235580/re... 🥾 Walking Poles → https://www.rei.com/product/251371/re... 🧳 Osprey Airporter → https://amzn.to/49bJd6E 🔌 Foldable Magnetic Wireless Charger → https://amzn.to/4ugUuuM 🌧️ Patagonia Rain Jacket → https://www.rei.com/product/201548/pa... 💧 Water Bottle Holder → https://www.rei.com/product/141835/ni... 🎥 Filming Gear People Ask About 👇 📸 Camera → https://amzn.to/4f0ejBE 🚁 Drone → https://amzn.to/4tP0db2 🎤 Microphone → https://amzn.to/4uqWgcB 🪵 Pole / Selfie Stick → https://amzn.to/4cK0Mgm 📍 Mini Tripod → https://amzn.to/4ulydvw 💡 Some links are affiliate links — no extra cost to you.
