The Camino Changed Overnight – Camino de Santiago (Ep. 8)

This week on the Camino, something changed. I set out early like always — but right away, it felt different. More people. More noise. More energy. Shops open earlier, vendors along the trail, and crowds everywhere. After days of quiet stretches and open paths, the Camino suddenly felt… busy. At first, it threw me off. Even stopping for coffee meant navigating crowds and packed cafés. And out on the trail, I had to start thinking about things I hadn’t before — like not having quite as much privacy. But every now and then, the Camino still gave me those moments. Quiet forest paths. Moss-covered stones. Twisting trees and soft light breaking through the trees. The kind of stretches that remind you exactly why you’re out here. And somewhere in the middle of all that… it started to hit me. I only have one more day of walking left. Along the way, I passed chicken coops, sheep in the road, and even a bagpiper playing right on the trail. I saw more pilgrims than ever — some carrying everything, others having their bags sent ahead — and started to realize just how many different ways there are to walk the Camino. By the time I reached O Pedrouzo, it felt like everything was building toward the finish. A small hotel. A tiny shower with a mind of its own. And somehow… a full Mexican dinner, a margarita, and tequila shots with fellow pilgrims.
