In this video, we're visiting the world-famous Parksville Beach Festival Sand Sculpting Competition, camping beneath the towering trees of Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park, hunting down some incredible local eats and unique hidden gems, and putting one of the cheapest portable BBQs money can buy to the test with a premium Wagyu steak. Every year, world-class sand sculptors transform nothing but sand and water into breathtaking works of art, with the finished sculptures on display for weeks. But there’s much more than sandcastles. Throughout the festival, visitors can enjoy live concerts, daily buskers, sand sculpting lessons, artisan markets and family activities, all set against the backdrop of Parksville’s famous beach. People come for its wide sandy beaches, warm ocean waters, family-friendly atmosphere, and some of the best summer events on the Island. Once you come for a visit here, it's easy to see why so many people return year after year. Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park is one of British Columbia’s most popular camping destinations, welcoming visitors year-round to the shores of Parksville. The campground features more than 200 forested campsites, all within about a five-minute walk of the beach, along with hot showers, flush toilets, a sani-station, playgrounds and walking trails. What makes this park truly unique is its expansive tidal flats. At low tide, the ocean can recede nearly a kilometre, revealing a vast stretch of sand that’s perfect for beachcombing, exploring tide pools and enjoying a walk along the shoreline. After exploring the beach, we made our way to Arrowsmith Brewing, one of the area's favorite craft breweries. Known for its welcoming atmosphere and excellent lineup of locally brewed beers, it's the perfect place to relax after a day outdoors. Whether you enjoy IPAs, lagers, stouts, or seasonal brews, Arrowsmith Brewing has something worth trying, and it's become a must-stop for craft beer lovers visiting the Oceanside region. Later we headed to the historic Black Goose Inn, one of Parksville's most recognizable restaurants. Styled after a traditional English pub, it offers classic comfort food, a cozy atmosphere, and beautiful views overlooking the estuary. It's the perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring and adds another memorable stop to a Parksville itinerary. Just minutes from downtown Parksville, Top Bridge Crossing is one of the area's favourite places to cool off on a hot summer day. Spanning the Englishman River, the bridge offers beautiful views of the clear water below and the surrounding old-growth forest. The area is located within the traditional territory of the Snaw-Naw-As First Nation, whose people have lived in this region for countless generations. Today, locals and visitors alike come here to swim, relax on the rocky shoreline, or simply enjoy one of Parksville's most scenic natural escapes.
