It was a chance to come back to a place that shaped who I am... and to see it through fresh eyes. This is my hometown, A place that's changed A LOT over the years, but somehow still feels exactly like home. We came back to rediscover it and support some local businesses, revisit a few favourite places... and at the end of it all, we'll show you the campground that made the perfect base for exploring everything Ucluelet has to offer. As we make our way into Ucluelet on Vancouver Island’s wild west coast, we’re entering the traditional territory of the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ First Nation, part of the Nuu-chah-nulth peoples who have lived along this coastline for thousands of years. The Ucluelet Aquarium is the Canada's first catch-and-release aquarium . The exhibits showcase marine life from Clayoquot and Barkley Sound, giving visitors a close-up look at the incredible biodiversity of BC's west coast. It's a unique approach that blends education, conservation, and hands-on experiences while helping people better understand the ocean just beyond Ucluelet's shoreline. The Wild Pacific Trail is one of Ucluelet's greatest success stories. It began in the late 1990s when local resident Oyster Jim Martin envisioned a trail that would protect this incredible stretch of coastline while giving people a safe way to experience it. Working with volunteers, including STephs late mom, Carol, local businesses, the District of Ucluelet, and the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ First Nation, that vision gradually became reality. Today, the trail stretches for a total of 8 km kilometres, Along the way, you'll find viewpoints, interpretive signs, and a front-row seat to the wild west coast of Vancouver Island This builidng used to be St. Aidan's Church (The idea to transform the building into a brewery was born in 2015, with a vision of creating a welcoming community gathering place. After years of planning and a full renovation using reclaimed wood from the original building, Ucluelet Brewing Company opened its doors in 2021. Today, it blends the church's history with great craft beer, keeping the spirit of community alive in a whole new way. Just over 35 minutes from Ucluelet, Secret Beach Campground offers a quieter side of Vancouver Island's west coast. The drive winds through towering rainforest before reaching the shoreline of Barkley Sound, where the pace instantly slows down. And you may get the opportunity to see bears or other wildlife on the way in or out . we ended up seeing 6 bears and 5 cubs over our trip Toquaht Bay Marina part of the campsite, operated by the Toquaht Nation, The marina serves as a gateway to the Broken Group Islands and Barkley Sound. Ucluelet has grown into one of British Columbia's most popular coastal destinations, and it's easy to see why. With its dramatic ocean views, incredible hiking, abundant wildlife, welcoming local businesses, and laid-back atmosphere, it's a place that keeps calling us back. If you're planning a visit, be sure to book your campground or accommodations in advance and support the amazing local businesses that make this community so special. 0:00 - Introduction 1:30 - Ucluelet History 3:28 - Ucluelet Aquarium 5:34 - Wild Pacific Trail 10:10 - Black Rock Resort 12:50 - Big Beach 16:30 - Ucluelet Brewing Co. 18:06 - Jiggers Fish & Chips 18:50 - Secret Beach Campground 12:44 - Ukee Poke (West Coast Shapes Ukee) #Ucluelet #VancouverIsland #BritishColumbia #CampingBC #VanLifeCanada #WildPacificTrail #SecretBeachCampground #VancouverIslandCamping #ExploreBC #TravelBC #WestCoastCanada #Camping #BearWatching #UclueletAquarium #VancouverIslandTravel #CanadianRoadTrip #BCAdventure #CampingLife #TravelCanada #NatureLovers #bigbeach #blackrockresort
