The Watchtower kept on crumbling until there was nothing left - Noel & Rick Ross

C/W - Suicide ideation _________________________________________ Today I spoke with Noel and Rick Ross, who placed their faith in Jehovah and got involved in church ministry, but ultimately deconverted as the truth claims of Christianity fell apart. We touched on many topics, including: • Being told that loved ones who don't make it to Paradise will be erased from their memories. • Doing extensive work as Pioneers who go door to door sharing the Jehovah's Witness message. • Getting disfellowshipped (Noel) and losing her entire community since no one else in the church was allowed to interact with her. • Growing up Baptist (Rick) but starting to deconstruct the identity of Jesus and question whether he was really god, and ultimately getting pulled into the Jehovah's Witnesses perspective. • Being pushed to be a ministerial student, on the path to becoming an elder. • Starting to have significant and growing doubts about what they believed as JWs. • Hearing JW leaders give detailed prescriptions about what marital intimacy should and should not look like. • Staying in the JW church for many years, despite their doubts, because of their fears of losing the afterlife and their marriage. • Eventually admitting their doubts to each other and slowly deconstructing together. • Asking their JW elders to answer some hard questions, which the elders were unable to answer. • Realizing the horror of the rampant child abuse in the Jehovah's Witnesses. • Escaping Christianity altogether and reclaiming their identities.
