If we don’t fight now, tomorrow will be far worse than we imagine - Leo Igwe

Today I spoke with Leo Igwe, who grew up in the Catholic faith, but ultimately deconverted as the truth claims of Christianity fell apart. He has become an activist for protecting victims of witch hunts and for promoting rationality, especially in schools. We touched on many topics, including: • How supernatural beliefs drain people's sense of compassion and care for fellow humans and removes their logic and rationality. • Realizing that ignorance is disease that ends up being toxic and deadly. • Struggling against people who don't have the conscience to tell themselves that they are deceiving and exploiting people through religion. • Seeing how religion encourages people to lie to themselves and to not to say what they are really thinking when they are questioning the religion's claims. • Having the bravery to change culture as we realize that progress is not handed down for free but instead has a high price. • Understanding that many institutions incentivize magical thinking and leave no space for skepticism and reason. • The need for us to reward people in our society for being skeptical, rational, and critical thinkers. • Acknowledging the fearful reality that if we don’t fight against religion now, the situation will be far worse in the future.
