I realized Christianity was a bunch of lies, and I simply couldn't believe anymore - Khrista Nelson

C/W - Suicide ideation, brief discussion of rape _________________________________________ Today I spoke with Khrista Nelson, who placed her faith in Jesus and became radically committed to him, but ultimately deconverted as the truth claims of Christianity fell apart. We touched on many topics, including: • Becoming radically committed to Jesus and to serving him. • "Crucifying" her flesh to be pure and useful to god. • Doing street evangelism and casting demons out of people. • Becoming convinced that her same-sex attraction was an abomination. • Engaging in a same-sex relationship but then getting exposed to "turn or burn" preaching and getting convicted that she needed to return to heterosexuality. • Getting strongly plugged into the New Apostolic Reformation movement, which focused on signs and wonders, miracles, prophecies, angels and demons, speaking in tongues, etc. • Feeling "sexually dead" as she tried in vain to return to heterosexuality and to program herself to give her body to her husband as part of Biblical submission. • Experiencing multiple church abuses and cover-ups, to the point that she got into the home church movement. • Leaning toward Preterism and the Israel-Only position. • Deconverting from Christianity and reclaiming her identity. • The importance of giving kids the choice of thought autonomy. • The beauty of not seeing other people and relationships as Christian "projects" anymore. • Experiencing much more peace after escaping Christianity. • Realizing that her whole life as a Christian had been based on fear of a supposedly loving god. • The importance of learning to trust yourself.
