Le campane di Domodossola (VB)

The bell tower of the main church of Domodossola (Verbania, Italy) is an ancient lookout tower, housing one of the oldest eight-bell concerts, cast by De Giorgi in 1754. Of the original bells, six are still preserved today, while two of them were rebuilt in 1900. The church concert is of considerable historical and artistic interest, being the first to be played with this sound system. The bells are in the diatonic scale of E-flat major. Bells 1+3+4+6+7+8: De Giorgi of Alessandria 1754 Bell 2: Barigozzi 1949; Bell 5: Barigozzi 1936 The Church of Saints Gervasio and Protasio is a national monument and stands in the historic centre of Domodossola. The new church was built between 1792 and 1798 to the design of the royal architect Matteo Zucchi, built on the basis of the pre-existing collegiate church dating back to the mid-1500s. Due to a lack of funds, the church remained a façade until 1954, when it was built around the beautiful Baroque porch in order to emphasise the Romanesque portal that was almost a thousand years old. Above the entrance is a magnificent pipe organ with two manuals and pedal board, a fully mechanical instrument built in 1889. The side naves frame the exquisite high altar in polychrome marble, which houses an exceptional Crucifix, a masterpiece by master carver Giorgio de Bernardis. The roof of the church is made entirely of natural stone rafters, according to the typical Ossola custom. 0:00 Photographic documentary 2:47 Ringing of the eight bells #bells #church #catholic #catholicchurch #bell #culture #italy #concert #mountain #tourism #storm #holiday Music track: Cinematic Documentary Romantic by Infraction [No Copyright Music] / Landforms
