Wie man einen Glockenturm erneuert | SWR Handwerkskunst

Master carpenter Sebastian Luib and his team are restoring the historic St. Michael Chapel in Wangen near Ostrach. They are carefully working on the centuries-old bell tower and in particular the belfry, whose wooden structure has been severely damaged by weather, fungal infestation, and pests. With a wealth of experience and skilled craftsmanship, they remove the spire and the belfry and transport both to the workshop in Bad Saulgau. There, the damaged wooden parts are trimmed back to health, and precisely fitting wooden supports and prostheses are crafted — a pinnacle of the carpentry trade. At the same time, bell specialist Simon Westermann inspects the ringing mechanism and replaces worn parts. After the precise restoration, the components are reinstalled. The bell is securely rehung and rung three times—a moment that brings tradition and craftsmanship to life. Thus, the tower will once again ring out in all its glory, preserving the cultural heritage for future generations.
