Good Food Is Here #6 | Flavors of Edirne | A Motorcycle Culinary Journey with İlker Ayrık 🏍️ I set out with Honda's support... In this episode, my destination is Edirne, the border city. I set out from Istanbul on a foggy, misty morning... Fortunately, as I continued along the road, the weather cleared, and the sun began to shine. With the change in weather, the road, the appetite, and the pleasure took a completely different turn. 📍First destination: Menemen! As soon as I left my bike, I stopped by Tadım Breakfast Restaurant, exchanging greetings with the shopkeepers. I had a delicious start to the day with both plain and mixed menemen. Because menemen... is a red line for us. 🥩 Can you come to Edirne and not try liver? Years ago, when Müjdat Hoca and I visited on a theater tour, I stopped by Edirne Ciğercisi Kemal Usta, the same place we had visited. We ate Edirne liver, as the late Bahri Bey put it: "Yellow as amber, light as a butterfly." The same taste, the same place, but this time with a different meaning. 🛍️ Then came a bazaar that has been alive since 1565: Alipaşa Bazaar. Walking among the shops, under the shade of the historic stones, one is transported to another time. After walking from one end of the bazaar to the other, I found myself at Balkan Piliç Lokantası. Liver wraps arrived on the table… As if straight from my mother's kitchen. Not only did they fill me up, they took me back years ago… 🥩 Next stop: Çakay Köftecisi. They were meatballs, but not just any meatballs. The kind that make you wonder, "Can meatballs like this even exist?" I wanted to send Edirne off with meatballs, and I'm so glad I did. 🎁 Last stop before returning home: Sayınbaş Şekerleme. I can't bring liver, but I couldn't leave without almond butter. I fed the crew myself, put our almond butter in the bag, and said goodbye to Edirne for now. The Edirne section is over... but there are still more stories to tell and more flavors to savor in this city.
