Hephaestus, god of fire, the forge, blacksmiths, and craftsmen, was one of those who secretly loved Aphrodite. Hephaestus was the son of Hera and Zeus, king of the gods. He was also the complete opposite of Aphrodite: an unattractive creature. In fact, according to the myth of Aphrodite and Ares, when Hephaestus was born, his own mother was angered by his ugliness and banished him from Olympus. Hephaestus was lame and hunchbacked. He had a neglected and unpleasant appearance. Humiliated by his own mother's rejection, he decided to take revenge. So he built a magic throne in his workshop and tricked Hera into sitting on it.
