Prof. Elżbieta Wichrowska, Centrum Badań nad Kulturą Warszawy UW. Odc. 2/2 (odc. 35. z 48.)

"The University of Warsaw is inextricably linked to Warsaw, and studying the city's history is also studying its culture, institutions, and the people who shaped them," says Professor Elżbieta Wichrowska from the Faculty of Polish Studies at the University of Warsaw, director of the Center for Research on Warsaw Culture, in the podcast "mUWi się." "mUWi się. Podcasts of the University of Warsaw" is a series of conversations devoted to academic life – science, teaching, and issues important to the university. Mateusz Szymkowiak was hosted by Professor Elżbieta Wichrowska, a literary scholar, researcher of 18th-century culture, and director of the Center for Research on Warsaw Culture. In the first part of the interview, Professor Elżbieta Wichrowska describes her academic journey – studies at the Faculty of Polish Studies at the University of Warsaw, doctoral studies, and research on the literature and culture of the Enlightenment. She explains why, when dealing with the 18th century, it's difficult not to also consider Warsaw, which was the center of intellectual and cultural life in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth during this period. Elżbieta Wichrowska discusses the idea of integrating researchers studying the city's history, the University's collaboration with public institutions, and projects promoting knowledge about Warsaw. The second episode of the podcast is devoted to the basement of Kazimierzowski Palace – one of the oldest surviving sections of the University of Warsaw. Professor Elżbieta Wichrowska discusses the history, structure, and changing functions of the palace – from a royal residence, through the Knights' School, to the contemporary seat of university authorities. The conversation also touches on the research conducted in the basement, which is interdisciplinary in nature and allows for a better understanding of the history of the campus and Warsaw itself. __________________________________________________________________________ The "mUWi się" podcast project is implemented by the University of Warsaw Press Office. Dr. Anna Modzelewska and Olga Najfeld are responsible for its coordination and content. Mirosław Kaźmierczak is responsible for its production and editing. The "mUWi się" project is funded under the Initiative of Excellence – Research University (IDUB) program. IDUB is one of the key programs of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, aimed at supporting the best Polish universities in improving the quality of research and education, and strengthening their international competitiveness.
