Tam & Echo's Adventures Day 7 Yorke Peninsula

Today started at Minlaton Caravan Park with a relaxed morning, bacon and eggs for breakfast, and a quick check on the battery situation before hitting the road. Before leaving, we stopped near the local fauna park where we spotted some emus. Echo wasn't too impressed and spent most of the time growling at the safely from inside the van! Our first stop was Bluff Point Beach, where we learned about the old davits that were once used to lift boats safely out of the water and protect them from rough seas. We wandered along the beach before tackling more of Yorke Peninsula's corrugated dirt roads. From there we headed to the Bluff Beach Campground, where we enjoyed another beach walk and took in the rugged coastline. Next up was Barkers Rocks, which felt like it was made for us! We explored the beach, found heaps of cuttlefish washed ashore, and watched Echo race around the rocks searching for a rock pool to splash around in. We also climbed a nearby sand dune lookout with fantastic views across both the coastline and surrounding farmland. The adventure continued with more puddle-filled dirt roads before we stopped at a huge sand dune just outside Port Rickaby. The climb to the top was steep, but the views were worth it. Echo absolutely loved tearing around the giant smooth sand hills while we soaked in the scenery. At Port Rickaby, we wandered out along the jetty, learned a little of its history, and stopped for lunch before continuing on. Along the next stretch of muddy roads, we made an unexpected stop to investigate some wombat burrows. We even caught a glimpse of a wombat disappearing deeper into one of the holes! The roads became even narrower after that, with some sections only just wide enough for the van. Thankfully we didn't meet anyone coming the other way. We eventually reached Wauraltee Campground, where we explored the beach and checked out another area where vehicles can drive directly onto the sand. With rain already starting and the campground looking wet and boggy, we decided it wasn't the best place to spend the night. After navigating muddy roadworks and slippery tracks, we finally arrived in Port Victoria. The rain had set in by then, so instead of exploring straight away, we booked into the caravan park, settled in for the evening, and saved Port Victoria for tomorrow's adventures. Another day of beaches, sand dunes, muddy roads, wildlife encounters, and plenty of exploring with Echo. Now we're tucked up in Port Victoria, ready to see where the road takes us tomorrow.
