Major Bridge Lift Completed on SH76 Brougham Street in Christchurch
A major milestone has been completed on the SH76 Brougham Street Upgrade in Christchurch, with the main span of the new pedestrian cycleway bridge successfully lifted into place. Using two 250-tonne cranes in a carefully coordinated night lift, the 37-metre truss was installed over one of Christchurch’s busiest transport routes. Once complete, the bridge will provide a safer and more accessible route for around 1,200 pedestrians and cyclists each day, including children travelling to nearby schools. The bridge forms part of Stage 1 of the SH76 Brougham Street Upgrade, alongside utility relocations and pavement improvements. This important infrastructure will help improve safety, support better walking and cycling connections, and reduce pressure on a key Christchurch traffic corridor.
