Land Rover Defender Clutch Failure?! | Finding & Fixing a Hydraulic Leak on Our 300TDI
This week on @RusttoRoad-4x4 we track down and repair a clutch hydraulic leak on our 1989 Land Rover Defender 110 300TDI before it turns into a much bigger problem. Before our recent trip to Yorkshire we noticed the clutch fluid reservoir was running low, so we topped it up and carried on. But after returning home the fluid level dropped again… and a couple of weeks later it was low once more. With a leak clearly developing, we began investigating the three most likely failure points in the Defender clutch hydraulic system: clutch master cylinder clutch slave cylinder flexible hydraulic hose At first there were no obvious signs around the master cylinder, but underneath the vehicle we discovered clutch fluid escaping from the bell housing wading plug — pointing towards a failed clutch slave cylinder seal. In this episode we: diagnose the clutch hydraulic leak remove and replace the clutch slave cylinder replace the clutch master cylinder install a new flexible hydraulic hose fit a clutch pedal assist spring deal with unexpected seized hardware and fabrication challenges troubleshoot incorrect clutch pedal travel after reassembly As always with old Land Rovers, what should have been a straightforward repair quickly became more involved than expected! If you own a Land Rover Defender, 300TDI, or any classic 4x4 with hydraulic clutch issues, hopefully this video helps you diagnose similar clutch fluid leaks and avoid getting stranded. 🚙 Vehicle: 1989 Land Rover Defender 110 300TDI 🔧 Repairs: Clutch slave cylinder replacement Clutch master cylinder replacement Hydraulic hose replacement Clutch pedal assist spring installation ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Instagram: / rusttoroaduk Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?...
