Fault Diagnosis and Replacement of a Failed Alternator in our 1989 Land Rover Defender 110 300 TDI

Heading home from the football and the lights are going dim, the radio turns off, and the windscreen wipers stop working, somehow managed to limp home in the dark. Is it the battery or the charging system? We get through the next few days by charging the battery each night and limping home each afternoon before the sun sets. No heated seats, radio or cab heater for a few days. In this video we diagnose the electrical fault with our Land Rover and conclude that we have a faulty voltage regulator in the alternator. As the Land Rover is a daily driver and to be on the safe side, we order a new alternator (don’t worry the first one will be returned to service) and set to removing and replacing the faulty alternator on the drive.
