Starting the Irish Stone Cottage | The Stitched Village Block 4 | Ep 1
Block 4: The Irish Stone Cottage — a slow stitched textile block inspired by a little cottage nestled into the green Irish countryside. For this block, I’m creating soft Irish mountains, layered greens, rolling hills and a cosy setting for the cottage using vintage needlepoint, lace, old fabrics, fabric scraps and hand stitching. I wanted this piece to feel quiet, textured and storybook-like, with the cottage tucked safely into the landscape. This is a slow stitching and textile collage process, using vintage textiles to build depth, texture and atmosphere. I’ll be layering fabrics, choosing greens, adding mountain shapes, working with lace and needlepoint, and slowly building the background before the cottage takes its place in the scene. Each block in The Stitched Village can be enjoyed as a one-off mini quilt, or you can stitch the blocks as a series and join them together to create a larger quilt. This makes each little home its own finished textile piece, while also becoming part of a growing stitched village. Thanks so much for stitching along with me. 🤎
