🧘 International Day of Yoga 2026 Celebration | Week-Long Activities & CYP Session | #pcoesiliguri

Pragati College of Education, Siliguri, successfully observed the International Day of Yoga 2026 through a week-long series of activities aimed at promoting physical well-being, mental health, holistic living, and awareness of India's rich yogic heritage. The celebration witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and non-teaching staff. The observance commenced with a number of student-centric competitions designed to encourage creativity and reflection on the significance of yoga. These included an Essay Writing Competition, Poster Making Competition, and Drawing Competition, where students expressed their understanding of yoga, health, wellness, and sustainable living through art and literature. As part of the preparatory activities, special sessions were conducted on the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) under the guidance of Ms. Rachana Barua, Yoga Instructor. During these sessions, participants were introduced to the objectives, significance, and various components of the Common Yoga Protocol prescribed for the International Day of Yoga. Ms. Barua personally guided the students through the practices and provided hands-on training to ensure proper understanding and execution of the yogic postures and breathing exercises. The week-long programme also included an informative seminar on Ayurveda and Holistic Living conducted by Dr. Biva Mishra, Director, Patanjali Wellness Siliguri. The resource person provided valuable insights into the principles of Ayurveda, emphasizing the relationship between food habits, clothing choices, lifestyle practices, and overall well-being. The session enabled participants to understand how conscious daily choices contribute to physical, mental, and emotional health. The culminating programme was held on 21st June 2026 (Sunday) at the college premises. The event commenced at 6:30 A.M. with the presence of students, faculty members, non-teaching staff, and the yoga instructor. The programme began with the symbolic offering of water to a plant, signifying harmony with nature, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. Floral tributes were offered to the portrait of Maharishi Patanjali, the revered sage associated with the codification of Yoga. A two-minute prayer and invocation created a serene atmosphere and marked the formal beginning of the celebration. Thereafter, the participants performed the Common Yoga Protocol and yoga practice under the guidance and leadership of Ms. Rachana Barua, Yoga Instructor, who skillfully led the session and guided the participants through various yogic postures, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques aimed at promoting physical fitness, mental tranquillity, and overall well-being. Following the yoga practice, a Sankalp (pledge of commitment) and Shanti Patha were conducted, reaffirming the participants' dedication towards adopting a healthy and balanced lifestyle. A Yoga Pledge was also administered, in which all students, teaching staff, and non-teaching staff actively participated. Adding a cultural dimension to the programme, a Yog Geet was presented, highlighting the importance of yoga in achieving harmony between body, mind, and spirit. The winners of the Essay Writing, Poster Making, and Drawing Competitions were felicitated with trophies in recognition of their creativity and active participation throughout the week-long observance. The programme concluded on a patriotic note with the rendition of the National Song followed by the National Anthem, marking the successful culmination of the International Day of Yoga 2026 celebrations. The entire celebration served as a meaningful platform to spread awareness regarding the importance of yoga and holistic living, while inspiring participants to incorporate these practices into their daily lives for a healthier and more balanced future. . . . #pcoesiliguri
