Paschim Banga Divas 2026 | Celebrating the Heritage & Culture of West Bengal | PCOE Siliguri

In accordance with the directives issued by the Government of West Bengal, Higher Education Department vide Memo No. 783(31)-Edn (CS) dated 12.06.2026 and subsequent communication No. 804(33)-Edn(U)/HED-12016(99)/30/2026-UNV SEC dated 15.06.2026 regarding the observance of Paschim Banga Divas (West Bengal Day), Pragati College of Education, Siliguri organized a series of educational and cultural activities to commemorate the occasion and celebrate the rich heritage, language, literature, and cultural diversity of West Bengal. The celebration commenced with an Essay Writing Competition on the theme "What West Bengal Means to Me." Students from the B.Ed. 2nd and 4th Semester enthusiastically participated in the competition and expressed their thoughts, experiences, and pride associated with the state through thoughtful and creative essays. The results were subsequently announced, and the winners were felicitated with trophies in recognition of their achievements. The event was followed by a vibrant cultural programme showcasing the linguistic and cultural richness of West Bengal. Students presented soulful group songs in Bengali, while a captivating recitation in the Munda language reflected the multicultural spirit of the state and highlighted the importance of preserving indigenous traditions. A comprehensive PowerPoint presentation was delivered on the history, culture, eminent personalities, literature, festivals, and achievements of West Bengal. To encourage active participation and reinforce learning, a quiz competition was conducted based on the information presented. Students participated with great enthusiasm and demonstrated commendable knowledge of the state's heritage. The programme further featured speeches by students and teachers, emphasizing the significance of Paschim Banga Divas and the need to preserve and promote the cultural legacy of West Bengal. The presentations and discussions fostered a sense of pride, belonging, and appreciation for the state's rich traditions and contributions. The celebration concluded on a joyous and reflective note, leaving participants enriched with a deeper understanding of West Bengal's glorious history and vibrant cultural identity.
