Forging Japanese Deba: Part 1
A short video of some of the work I did in the shop this afternoon. I haven't made a video for a long time. Ni Mai blade made of 80CrV2 and mild steel. If anyone knows the correct designation for a blade of 2 main layers please let me know. Forged to a deba shape I plan to asymmetrically grind the blade for left handed use with a hollow grind in the back. One of the unique challenges to this type of blade is that you are guaranteed the blade will warp during heat treatment, I will discuss this a little over on my blog on my website. No sound as I assume nobody wants to hear steel on steel while they are trying to relax... or I forgot to turn the mic on... Want to learn knife making?
