Last summer, Justin reached out to us completely out of the blue. He said he was a fan of the channel and wanted to share his story about his detailing business, Jus Detail. We got on the phone, and what was supposed to be a quick call turned into an hour of jokes and laughter. Right away, we knew he was someone worth visiting. At one point, we asked him, “What makes you different from other detailers?”He hesitated, then slowly opened up about his family’s story, Mamita’s Ices. Growing up in Queens, I grew up on these ices, and to this day, I still love them. I had to meet them. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed like family. We met Justin’s father, Manuel, who opened up to us about their journey, and we were lucky enough to meet his grandfather, Máximo, as well. Speaking to them, we realized the principles and lessons from their ancestors have carried through generations. Their humbleness, grit, and passion for cars are woven into who they are. But this story isn’t about cars. It’s about family, sacrifice, and what it means to build something together as immigrants in New York City. We’ll be honest, this isn’t the kind of story we’re “supposed” to tell on an automotive channel. But we’ve never really been interested in doing what we’re supposed to do. To those who’ve supported us through car culture, we hope you can feel the same sense of community and togetherness that we did with the Morel family.
