Of the 350,000 natural gas vehicles in Peru, only a small fraction are freight and passenger transport units, concentrated mainly on the central and northern coast, due to the greater deployment of gas stations that give them a range of over 1,000 km. Modasa, a company that has manufactured nearly 4,000 gas-powered vehicles over 20 years, argued that the limited presence of large gas-powered vehicles in the southern regions is due to the insufficient supply of refueling stations. “In 2025, around 25,000 heavy vehicles were registered in the country, of which only 5% operate on natural gas, and none were registered in Cusco.
