Perú enfrentará vertimientos si no se intensifica inversiones en nuevas redes de transmisión

Energy curtailment and the challenges of integrating renewable energy into the Peruvian electricity system were analyzed in the panel “How to Address the Curtailment Problem? Does This Risk Exist in Peru?”, held as part of PERÚ ENERGÍA Sur Arequipa. The event brought together representatives from the electricity sector: María Ugalde, Business Development Director of Acciona Energía; Orlando Mercado, External Affairs Manager of Orygen; César Butrón, President of the Economic Operation Committee of the National Interconnected System (COES); and Carlos León, Legal and Regulatory Manager of Kallpa. Luis Flores, an energy expert, moderated the discussion. During the debate, César Butrón explained that the operation of the electricity system is based on criteria of economic efficiency and security of supply, using optimization models that determine energy dispatch. He pointed out that spillover can occur locally due to transmission constraints, rather than as a systemic phenomenon, and highlighted the use of rules such as capacity-based pro rata allocation for generation reductions. For his part, Orlando Mercado warned that the current scheme may not adequately reflect the externalities of investment decisions, which could distort market signals and generate risks of over-installation at certain nodes of the electrical system. 👉 More information here: https://bit.ly/3QYMVue
