Más de S/ 12 mil millones del canon gasífero de Camisea permanecen sin ejecutar en Cusco

Cusco has received more than S/ 33 billion in gas royalties and additional royalties since the Camisea gas field began operations in 2004; however, these funds have not been properly managed for the execution of projects that would benefit the population. “Of the total received, only 20 billion soles have been spent, and there are around 12 billion frozen in bank deposits that cannot be used,” questioned Rogers Valencia, president of the Cusco Institute of Economics. During his speech at PERÚ ENERGÍA Cusco, he stated that there are more than 6,800 stalled projects in the region, and more than 60% of them are the responsibility of the district municipalities. “Any project abandoned for more than eight years has little to no chance of being restarted, as it could cost more than initially budgeted.
