Korpus, Input, Interaktion: Konstruktionsdidaktik (Grammatik in der Schule | SoSe 2026)

This session focuses on the transition from construction grammar to construction didactics. In contrast to traditional approaches, construction didactics views language as a system of holistic units learned through social interaction. Using frequency analyses from a small, specially created corpus (“Doktor Albolit,” “Hamlet,” and ‘Faust’ from world literature for children, and “Das Land ohne Buchstaben”), we will demonstrate how high-frequency linguistic patterns can be utilized in the classroom. At the center of the practical analysis is the prototypical transfer verb “geben,” whose syntactic and semantic properties are examined beyond valency grammar to include semantic roles (such as the benefactive) and frame semantics. The relevance and prototypicality of specific linguistic patterns are thus illustrated through this example.
