So sinnvoll und gerecht sind Schulnoten (Ganze Folge) | Quarks
According to studies, almost half of all students fear bad grades. Nevertheless, three-quarters of all Germans are convinced that school grades make sense. Quarks shows how fair school grades are and what alternatives exist. Most students are familiar with the fear of bad grades. This fear doesn't only affect poor students, as Alexandra's story shows. However, school grades have become an integral part of the German education system. But what are the advantages of school grades? Quarks interviewed a teacher representative, a parent representative, and a student representative about this. School grades are often perceived as unfair. But there was a time when they ensured greater fairness. Before their introduction, only the nobility had access to education. With school grades, performance, not background, suddenly determined one's career path. What would happen if grades were simply omitted from school? The Primus School in Minden shows: The special thing about a school without grades is the teaching. In Germany, teaching without grades is usually only practiced up to the 8th grade. The reason: Starting in 9th grade, there are final exams, and they must be graded. How do students who previously learned without grades cope with this change? What happens to students who attended a school without grades? Can they be successful in their careers? Quarks met with the coordinator of the international PISA study – a former Waldorf student.
