THE ODYSSEY Kritik (Spoiler) – Nolans größtes Spektakel hat einen Haken!

Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" brings Homer's epic to IMAX – with a runtime of 173 minutes, cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema, composer Ludwig Göransson, and editor Jennifer Lame. In this review, I explain why the film completely won me over as a pure spectacle, but why the emotional suffering of the Odyssey falls short in Nolan's version – and how this relates to films like Beau Is Afraid and The Green Knight. 📖 You can find my detailed written review of the film here: https://www.popcornguide.de/aktuelles... In short: The Odyssey is one of the greatest cinematic spectacles I have ever seen – technically, visually, and aurally almost overwhelming. But Nolan consciously chooses the blockbuster route and, in doing so, forgoes genuine character development. Odysseus too often remains unscathed, Penelope and Telemachus remain superficial, and the suffering that, for me, is an integral part of the Odyssey is almost entirely absent. Nevertheless, I left the cinema happy. 4/5 stars from me. Yes, according to this review, the film is an incredibly powerful visual and auditory spectacle, but it lacks emotional depth in its main characters. How long is The Odyssey? 173 minutes. Who edited The Odyssey? Jennifer Lame, known for Hereditary, Marriage Story, Tenet, and Oppenheimer, among others. Why should you watch The Odyssey in its original version? Because Nolan had specially developed quieter IMAX cameras and a soundproof blimp to avoid the need for dubbing – the original soundtrack contains the genuine emotions from the set. #TheOdyssey #ChristopherNolan #FilmReview
