Christopher Nolans ODYSSEE: Kein guter Film? Meine ehrliche Meinung

I was incredibly hyped for Christopher Nolan's THE ODYSSEY. I went to the cinema, I saw it, I thought about it. And I have to be honest: the film just didn't click with me. No bashing. No culture war rhetoric. No hatred for the cast or for Nolan. Just my honest, very personal opinion as someone who loves the Odyssey and who was looking forward to this cinematic experience like almost no other film before. What bothered me: all the hype surrounding IMAX and 70mm completely fizzled out in a regular cinema. I didn't sense the monumentality, I didn't feel the epic scale. The set design, the armor, the architecture—they all felt like a theatrical backdrop, not like the Bronze Age. Some of the dialogue was pure exposition, delivered like a lecture instead of an organic story, even though the characters have known each other for twenty years. And then there's the cast. The film isn't historically accurate, that was clear beforehand, and I can even accept that. Nevertheless, my own expectations caught up with me, and that's exactly what I discuss self-critically in this video. What I liked: the Cyclops, really good sound design, music that builds to a fever pitch, and visual references that immediately made me think of Goya's "Cronos Devouring His Children." In this video, I'll take you through my subjective critique: marketing hype, immersion, set design, dialogue, the role of antiquity in the film, the accusations of racism and anti-fascism, which I consider unreflective, and finally, an honest self-reflection on my own expectations of a film adaptation. Because that's precisely what "Media Intoxicated" is about: the power of our stories. Why do myths, narratives, and fictional images have so much power over us that we take to the barricades when a three-thousand-year-old story is reinterpreted? For those who want to delve deeper into the topic of the misuse of antiquity: My interview with Prof. Dr. Katharina Wesselmann from the University of Potsdam is linked in the description. Write your opinion in the comments. Have you seen the film? Are you just as disappointed, or are you celebrating Nolan's version? Please be fair and respectful; no contempt, but discussion is welcome. Xenia, the law of Zeus: Treat each other as if you were facing a god. Stay grounded, stay polite, stay enraptured.
