Getting Lost on the Lostland Run Trail! | Hiking Maryland | Waterfall Hike | RV Camping

In this Episode: Our 2023 camping season continues, with part 3 of our first ever Maryland State Park adventure! This time, April 27, 2023, we are heading to the Swallow Falls State Park. Our campsite is number 35, which has NO HOOKUPS! You’ll need a generator to camp here, but you won’t be able to run it during quiet hours. The campground is very well built and maintained, probably one of the best we’ve seen. It is very quiet and secluded, which is our preference. Our goal for this adventure is to explore the Lostland Run trail. This 3.5 mile trail features waterfalls, stream crossings, and an amazing overlook of the Potomac River. We, however, find ourselves lost as we look for ways to cross the high water. I do NOT recommend doing this trail after rain in the spring. There is no way to cross the creek, and there are, as many as five, creek crossings. Never fear, our adventure still leads us to spectacular views, and even a surprise visit to the CCC fish rearing ponds. This was, all in all, a very cool adventure; and it’s a place we hope to return to, so we can finish the trail in the proper manner. After our hike, we head to Schrock’s Country Store for some ice cream. That was a really neat store, and the ice cream was spectacular. We then head back to our Swallow Falls SP campsite, where we make “foil packets” for dinner. This, well known campfire cooking method, is one of our favorites!
