I never would have believed it was possible to get worse than the horribly bad Jaws 3... until I stumbled upon the fourth and final installment of the original Jaws franchise. Jaws: The Revenge is beyond awful and insults my intelligence with one of the dumbest plots in film history. On the one hand, it's incredibly boring. Absolutely nothing happens. And what happens feels arbitrary and far-fetched. At the same time, Jaws 4 exudes a strangely mysterious high quality in its visuals, sound, and acting. I like the cinematography, the Bahamas setting, and the stunning underwater shots. But the plot of Jaws 4, which is supposed to hold everything together, is making my brain rot. It's like buying a brand-new sports car. You're excited by how cool it looks from the outside, but then you open the hood and discover the Flintstones-style engine. For me, Jaws 4 is just as inferior as Jaws 3, albeit for completely different reasons. To quote my former math teacher: Jaws 3 and 4 are like a roofer—he can fall off to the left or right, but the end result is the same. Accordingly, I give Jaws: The Revenge 2.6 out of 10 points. ...
