Mohammed Obaei - Three generations under one Aleppian roof... Mohammed shares beautiful stories of coexistence in Old Aleppo and his optimism for a better future for his children after the war. Traditional houses were designed to bring families together. Documenting and assessing their damage ensures the survival of this tangible and intangible heritage. Through our project Documenting and Mapping the Current Status of Historic Buildings in Aleppo's Old City, we worked to protect this memory. A joint project of the Museum for Islamic Art in Berlin and the Association Friends of the Museum for Islamic Art (@FMIK e.V.), a part of the Syrian Heritage Archive Project (SHAP), funded by the German Federal Foreign Office (@Auswärtiges Amt). Drei Generationen unter einem aleppinischen Dach Mohammed erzählt bewegende Geschichten vom Zusammenleben in der Altstadt von Aleppo und von seiner Zuversicht auf eine bessere Zukunft für seine Kinder nach dem Krieg. Traditionelle Häuser waren darauf ausgelegt, Familien zusammenzubringen. Sie zu dokumentieren und ihre Schäden zu erfassen sichert das Überleben dieses materiellen und immateriellen Erbes. Mit unserem Projekt Dokumentation und Kartierung des aktuellen Zustands historischer Gebäude in der Altstadt von Aleppo arbeiten wir daran, dieses Gedächtnis zu schützen.
