Ali Hafez - A material loss, but a deep spiritual connection... From Al-Jdayde neighborhood, Ali Hafez shares his story: a father who lost his home and business during the war, yet his soul remains rooted in the place he lived. Documenting these buildings isn't just about numbers; it's about preserving stories of resilience. Through our project Documenting and Mapping the Current Status of Historic Buildings in Aleppo's Old City, we worked to protect this memory. A joint project of the Museum for Islamic Art in Berlin and the Association Friends of the Museum for Islamic Art (FMIK e.V.), a part of the Syrian Heritage Archive Project (SHAP), funded by the German Federal Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt). Gebäude zu dokumentieren bedeutet mehr als Zahlen zu erfassen; es bedeutet, Geschichten der Resilienz zu bewahren. Mit unserem Projekt Dokumentation und Kartierung des aktuellen Zustands historischer Gebäude in der Altstadt von Aleppo arbeiten wir daran, dieses Gedächtnis zu schützen.
