GSP PIT Maneuver Ends Wild 100mph Audi Chase in Savannah

On February 20, 2021, Georgia State Patrol Trooper Zachary Walker attempted to stop a white Audi after clocking it at 83 mph in a 55 mph zone on Harry S Truman Parkway. According to the incident report, the Audi initially stopped before fleeing onto Delesseps Avenue. During the pursuit, the driver ran red lights and stop signs, traveled in the wrong lanes, nearly struck another vehicle head-on, turned off the Audi’s headlights and taillights, and reached speeds exceeding 100 mph. The pursuit ended on Ranger Street when Trooper Walker performed a PIT maneuver, causing the Audi to rotate and strike an approaching sedan. The driver, identified in the report as Devonte Hankerson, fled on foot but was later located in a wooded area and taken into custody. Troopers reported finding marijuana, four oxycodone pills, a scale, two phones, and personal items inside the Audi, along with $2,022 in cash on Hankerson.
