A major split may be brewing within the NSCN-IM, the most prominent Naga insurgent group, as senior leader Ikato Swu announces his decision to ally with Myanmar-based Naga rebel factions to “carry forward the Naga struggle.” This development could mark a serious shift in the dynamics of the Naga peace process, especially since the NSCN-IM has been observing a ceasefire since 1997 and is currently engaged in prolonged peace talks with the Indian government.
