Day 2 at Tater TOT — Cataldo to Harrison + Moose on the Trail!

Welcome to Day Two of the Tater TOT Recumbent Rally here in Kellogg, Idaho! Today’s ride takes us from the Cataldo Bull Run trailhead all the way to Harrison, crossing one of the most iconic features along the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes — the long bridge stretching out across the water. Along the way, I share one of my favorite bits of English trivia: words whose plural doesn’t end in an “S.” Moose stays moose, deer stay deer, sheep stay sheep… but geese become geese, and goose definitely isn’t gooses. (English is weird.) I also talk a bit about drone filming — how much I enjoy capturing these rides from the air, and why it’s not something everyone would want to deal with while cycling. TOT riders are incredibly patient while I launch, retrieve, and fall behind the pack because the drone wants the perfect shot. We also chat about my upcoming trip to Czechia for the AZUB Anniversary Ride, and how I’ll have a few free weeks to explore routes around the country before and after the event. The ride today is full of wildlife: turtles sunning themselves, snakes crossing the path, deer grazing, and yes — a moose. Beautiful creatures, but absolutely not something you want to get too close to. Friendly reminder: moose will straight-up end you if you approach one in the wrong situation.
