Crisis Averted, Diving 25m To Save The Mission.

Crisis Averted. What should have been a standard week of refitting turned into a high-stakes salvage operation when a speedboat ignored the 5-knot limit, passing us at 30+ knots. The resulting bow wave swamped the dinghy, sending our oars and—more critically—our tiller bar to the seabed 25 meters below. Instead of letting the incident stall our progress, we shifted to an analytical approach, using the downtime to dry out the boat and tackle essential system integrations. In this episode: The 25m Recovery: Donning the wetsuit for a technical dive to retrieve the tiller bar from the seabed. System Integration: Fitting the new tri-data through-hull sensor while the boat is dried out on the beach. Fuel System Overhaul: Replacing fuel lines made brittle and split by high ethanol content in modern petrol. Structural Reinforcement: Fiberglassing the steering console into the hull for a more rigid, reliable helm setup. Hull Maintenance: Scaping back winter growth, barnacles, and seaweed to prepare for the season ahead. This week was a reminder that while the sea—and other boaters—can be unpredictable, a methodical strategy allows us to adapt and overcome. We are now one step closer to our firm target of departing next season for the French canals and the Mediterranean. https://patreon.com/Sailing_Speireag?... #boatrepairs #diy #digitalnomad #catamaran #boating #boatrestoration #sailing #boatrepair
