Тренера, защищавшегося от пьяных росгвардейцев, суд признал невиновным, но освободил не до конца

A children's coach who killed one of the National Guard officers while defending himself against a drunken group has been acquitted once again. But preparations are underway for a new trial to finally convict him—this will be the fifth attempt. Let me recap the history of this high-profile case: in 2021, on Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street, a drunken group of seven National Guard officers and one civilian began harassing the wives of coach Nikolai Kukushkin and his friend Grigory Artyomenko. Following a verbal altercation, the husbands began to be beaten. Grigory Artyomenko was thrown to the ground and kicked, suffering a broken jaw, facial bones, and arm. You'll see him in our story now. Note that, despite the five years that have passed, he still hasn't recovered from his speech impediment, despite treatment. Nikolai Kukushkin, despite being a children's hand-to-hand combat trainer, couldn't have handled seven National Guard officers and one civilian—the civilian, incidentally, a criminal—alone. Nikolai Kukushkin pulled out a Swiss Army knife and, as he says, began wielding it. He wounded several people with this knife. He inflicted the most serious wound on Mikhail Rashoyan, from which he died two hours later. He was being driven to the hospital by drunken National Guard officers, a long journey. Nikolai Kukushkin went to the police himself and was immediately sent to a pretrial detention center, where he awaited trial for a year and a half. He insisted on a jury trial, and the jury unanimously acquitted him. But the prosecutor's office succeeded in overturning the acquittal. The case against the National Guard officers charged with assault, however, dragged on. But after the public outcry, they were finally tried for assault and battery, found guilty, and given suspended sentences. The lone civilian in the Rosgvardia group, however, continued to commit crimes: he was later caught committing robbery and given a prison sentence. But Nikolai Kukushkin was tried a second time, and for the second time, he insisted on a jury. And when, as Nikolai Kukushkin's friends say, this second jury—like the first—leaned toward an acquittal, it was dissolved and a new one was assembled. The son of one of the heads of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Prosecutor's Office was inserted into the third jury to secure a guilty verdict. This son then began bragging to the girl that he was the son of the head of the prosecutor's office and that he had been instructed to serve on the jury to sway them toward a guilty verdict. The girl recorded all of this on her phone, and since the case was high-profile and the whole city knew about it, she passed her son's revelations on to the children's coach's friends, who then released the recording. The third jury was dismissed and a fourth was assembled. And this fourth jury acquitted Nikolai Kukushkin and found him not guilty. But a jury's verdict is not a sentence; the judge writes and announces the verdict based on the jury's verdict. And today, the verdict was announced.
