upstairs at the estate: ep. 6 - finish a wall / build a wall / seal a wall
In episode 6, we’re covering the catch-all stretch of work that carried this project from the end of July all the way into December. With colder weather on the way, the balcony exterior was brought close to the finish line so the house could be protected before winter settled in. And inside the primary bedroom, the newly framed exterior wall was insulated, vapor-barriered, and sheetrocked, turning the space from an open wound and into something that looked vaguely like an actual room again. But that was only part of the story. A brand-new wall was built to begin shaping what will become the walk-in closet, and the old bedroom doorway was sealed shut to make way for something much more dramatic, much more intentional, and, frankly, much more fitting for a 133-year-old house that likes to make everything complicated. This episode is about all the unglamorous, necessary work that makes the beautiful parts possible: closing things in, opening up new possibilities, and slowly reshaping the upstairs into the moody, grand primary suite it was meant to become.
