Wales Paragliding Adventures - Day 4 The forecast for the day was showing as basically blown out all day with strong wind. However, there was a potential opportunity for some flying in the late afternoon or early evening at Hay Bluff. As such, I had a lay-in, before heading to check out the Big Pit Mine. I then had a late lunch, before heading to Hay Bluff, arriving at around 6pm. After hiking to the top of Hey Bluff it was completely blown out (19-24mph gusting to 30). As the forecast was due to drop significantly only the next two hours, I monitored the wind for a while before deciding to hike about 1/3 of the way back down. I then monitor the speed for at a lower launch point. After around 10-15 minutes, the wind was 14-18mph and I felt able to handle a strong wind launch. After getting unpacked and ready, I then got clipped in, and tried to tease the wind up, but the turbulence from the path caused the wing to get messed up, so had to reset the wing ready to have another go. The second attempt went much better, wing came up clear and after running at the wing had to almost do a jumping right turn as I went airborne, it was all good, but certainly a very sporty launch. After launching there was an abundance of lift around, and it was easy to get to over 3,000ft. I ended up staying up for just over an hour and doing a 6km Triangle, before doing big ears and light spirals to get down for a lovely soft landing in the official landing field next to the car. A really lovely flight and worth the wait and hiking effort :)
