Woodturning - Paul Howard Fluting/Router Jig 14 - Scutum Tenebris (Dark Shield)

This is my 14th video following my learning experience with the Paul Howard Fluting/Router jig. William Hunt Woodturner. This project was about learning to make V flutes on the face of a project, a skill I need for for my next project. The design was jointly inspired by a shield crafted by Paul Howard which I saw at UKIWS last weekend and Stewart Furini’s amazing abilities with profiling and colours. I used a 12.7mm V Flute router cutter which worked well for this project giving an almost equal spacing for the fluting and web in between. I could have gone all the way with 72 flutes, but the result would be too fine and not be primitive like what In was seeking. A I don’t like the piece at all, but hopefully someone else will! It served its purpose as a training project and I also enjoyed playing with the metallic reactive paints and Intrinsic Colours. Paul Howard’s Fluting Jig is an amazing addition to the woodturners tool kit and opens up all kinds of new turning opportunities.
