The Ministry of Transport and Communications, through Provías Nacional, is moving forward with the bidding process for the construction, improvement, and rehabilitation of the Cusco-Chinchero-Urubamba highway, specifically the section connecting to the Chinchero International Airport. The project, valued at 445,793,414 soles, is currently in the preliminary stages of the selection process, which will be conducted under the "works for taxes" mechanism. This represents a collaboration between the public and private sectors to reduce the infrastructure gap in the country, enabling the efficient financing and execution of public investment projects. The project includes the paving of 7.5 kilometers of highway, with two lanes, shoulders, intersections leading to the airport and in Raqchi, as well as road safety signage. Interested bidders are expected to submit their financial proposals by the end of March 2024, and construction is estimated to begin by the end of April of that same year. Located in the district of Chinchero, province of Urubamba, the project will benefit more than 67,000 residents by improving transportation conditions, generating employment, and facilitating access to the future Chinchero International Airport, thus contributing to the growth of tourism in the area. The sector reiterates its commitment to the execution of road infrastructure projects that improve transportation conditions in the country, emphasizing transparency and integrity in public procedures.
