LIRR: Montauk Branch Rush Hour Diesels at Mastic-Shirley Feat. Cannonball Express #2798
NOTE: I apologize for the occasional acute shakiness in the video. My camera does that from time to time; not sure why. I'm pretty sure it does not have to do with the way I'm holding it though. Decided to hit Mastic-Shirley for the full evening rush considering my mom lives nearby and I've never actually done the full evening rush at Mastic-Shirley before. This is a cool LIRR train station to railfan at for three reasons: 1.) There are LOTS of train meets since everything east of Mastic-Shirley is all done manually. 2.) The line of sight looking west is pretty awesome and there's a nice hill that the trains ascend before coming into the station. Makes for a quite photogenic shot. 3.) One of the largest railroad crossings on the island, William Floyd Parkway, is just west of the station. I absolutely love large & busy crossings like this one; they are so cool. It is a 6-lane crossing! I regret not getting a shot of a train going through the crossing from the perspective of looking at the crossing itself now that I think about it. Two unique things occurred on this day: First, EB Train #2736 which is a 6-car, double DM set on summer Fridays performed a rare double-stop at Mastic-Shirley station. First, the front 2 cars were unloaded, then the rear 4 cars were unloaded. Normally trains just have the rear 4 cars platform and people have to walk back to exit but I'm guessing the train was too crowded in this case for that to be done. Also, DM30AC 502's horn is now loud and unrestricted! Also, note that the following trains were recorded at Mastic-Shirley Train Station: 2706, 2707, 2736, 2743, 2708, 2745, 2709, Cannonball Express #2798, 2738, 2712, & 2714 The following trains were recorded at the nearby Mastic Rd. Railroad Crossing: 2716, 2742, Eq. Deadhead #5751, & 2718 Also, I was with jkrspecnet and MrMaster767 for the first few trains. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The first three portions of this video were all meets and feature the following trains in this order: 1.) EB Train #2718 Origin: Jamaica Destination: Montauk Equipment: DE30Ac 410/C3 5014 **NOTE: EB Train #2718 meets WB Eq. Deadhead #5751 at the train station but since it was getting dark and my mom lives close to that railroad crossing, I decided to hang there instead of going back to the station to get the meet** ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
