🚧 OBRAS ESTACIÓN ATOCHA: RETOMAN EL NUEVO ANDÉN DE ALTA VELOCIDAD | 2 JULIO 2026 🚧
#madrid #madridcapital #atocha #trainstation #adif #madridcentro #madridspain Another visit to the Atocha station construction site and we still haven't seen any major updates, with the P3B platform still closed and the July opening schedule still unclear. But at least they've resumed work on the new platform for the high-speed 0A and 0B tracks, which will allow construction of the through station to begin at the end of 2027, barring any changes. We hadn't seen any progress on that platform for several weeks, as it had been divided in two for some time. They built the six pillars between the two existing structures, but nothing else was done. Well, they've now installed the foundations for the first formwork, and then they'll finish assembling all the reinforcement and later pour the concrete. I think it's quite likely that we'll see the complete reinforcement on the next visit, and perhaps they'll have poured the concrete in that central area by the end of July. They still need to finish the southbound platform and then build the two tracks, but I don't think they'll have any problem completing everything by the end of 2027. That's when they should close Méndez Álvaro and begin construction on the through station and the four new tracks under the street. As for the rest, we're still in the same situation as two weeks ago, unfortunately. P3B hasn't opened, although the "big" news is that they've installed the barrier that will allow exits from the parking garage to the south. There's still some accumulated material in places, no workers are visible, everything seems finished... but it's not open. And that's necessary so they can start the renovation of P2, which should see its domes removed, its size increased, the asphalt resurfaced, the space reorganized, etc. We'll have to wait another two weeks to see if we get lucky. They're still making progress on the four sidings, although they're not easy to see from the two recording points. Two tracks are clearly visible, with their sleepers already in place, and it looks like they're covering them with basalt (I think that's the material they're using). The other two tracks could be there, but between the slope and the fence, it's impossible to film more than what I'm showing you. Or so I think. Perhaps we'll soon see one of the new commuter trains parked there. Regarding the new access points, they're already installing handrails on the different ramps, laying tiles on the ground, and there look like new trees... They're making good progress, that's clear, but I have my doubts that everything will be ready by July. I say this because the exterior is one thing, and the interior is another. It doesn't seem like they'll finish everything this month, but we've seen more difficult things. There's still a lot of material piled up in the western area of the historic canopy, and they're still working around the central part of the building. Today I saw a false ceiling, which I expected, although not as well maintained, to be honest. It's located at the connection point between the canopy and the commercial area, which could also be renovated or refurbished. They're about to reopen the ramps on the west side that connect the three floors inside the canopy. This suggests they've finished laying the new flooring, but the mezzanine level is still to be completed. We'll see what their plans are for that. And from different areas, you can just make out the tropical garden, which has clearly shrunk in size and become less lush. Hopefully, we'll be lucky enough to see it finished by July.
